First mileage added, the CB&I sprint triathlon!!
Miles to date (5-5-12): 18.41
SUPER EXCITED!! To tell y’all about this little project I’ve had in the works that is becoming a reality! Beginning with my triathlon on May 5, I will be racing (ah hell, let me be accurate and say “participating”) in honor of The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. My participation in various events will allow me to fundraise for this organization. There are so many great aspects to this idea that I’m grinning ear to ear just thinking about them!
- Donations made to this organization will help researchers in the prevention, treatment, and hopefully finding a cure for breast cancer. To date, approximately 90 cents of every dollar goes directly to research.
- I get to participate in a variety of races and have the motivation of doing it for a larger purpose than just participation or myself.
- My butt gets moving and I have a HUGE reason to work out and get healthy!
- YOU, can help these efforts by placing a donation and follow my journey via my blog (which I can guarantee will be rather hilarious I’m sure).
I’ve created a cute little logo I’m going to place on EVERYTHING (because I’m a dork like that).
I’ve also been granted permission to use The Breast Cancer Research Foundation‘s logo for the purpose of fundraising.
Those of you who know me, know I have a soft spot for anything in regards to breast cancer. This horrible disease took my grandmother when I was in high school and has been my personal philanthropy ever since. NOW, I get to finally give back in a way I haven’t before and CAN NOT wait!
So, how will this work you ask?! Good question. In about a week, I’ll have a live donation page via The BCRF where you can donate. With this page, you’ll make a donation directly to the organization so your donation should be tax-deductible. You can either make a flat donation or if you’d like to pledge a certain amount per mile completed during the events. By the middle of December, I’ll give a final tally for the total miles I completed during all my events which will determine how much you donate. For example…….you decide to pledge 50 cents for every mile I finish and my final tally is 50 miles, your donation would be $25.00. Make sense?
On my race page (here on this blog), I’ll do my best to keep races up to date as I know which ones I plan to participate in as well as the results post race. On my cause page (again here on the blog), I’ll keep track of miles completed and how the fundraising is going. This makes me want to go out and train then sign up for every race I know!
Along the way, I may do some merchandise benefiting the cause as well……that’s just a thought right now, we’ll see where that goes.
Thank you in advance from the bottom of my heart! This will make the next 7 months exciting for me and hopefully my posts will keep you more than entertained as I go through this journey!!
