Tap, tap, tap………..is this thing on??!!

Sooo, hello there!  Yup……it’s been almost 6 months since I last posted.  I have absolutely no excuse really other than pure laziness.  During that time I did participate in several fun events and could have updated you on that BUT I didn’t :-)  Over the next several posts I’ll break down the past 6 months with any exciting information that I can pull out of this little head of mine.

While I’m here, I do want to wish you a Happy 2013!!  I hope this year will bring you whatever it is your heart desires!  Remember, the only thing that stands in your way is you ;-)  So go forward with desire and belief and make your dreams come true!

That sucked

This last week has pretty much sucked in the training (or doing anything for that matter) department.  I just wasn’t feeling it or myself.  Not that I was ill just had no motivation at all.  I mean zip, zero, zilch……nothing.

I took Monday off after being hit in the head Sunday evening by a football.  Still didn’t feel “right” so I felt better doing nothing.  Well, Tuesday through Saturday came and went and I still didn’t do anything.

Today, I did something.  I strapped on my Motoactv watch (which I REALLY need to tell y’all about cause it ROCKS – literally!), my running shoes, grabbed my water bottle and out I went.  Figured this session wouldn’t be too bad cause I’ve had to “run” longer in previous sessions.

I was wrong.

It absolutely sucked.

Not sure if it was a week of nothing (I’m sure it didn’t help) or bad nutrition (well, maybe not enough of it actually) which played a bigger role.  Now I truly understand when someone says they “pushed through it”.  I must confess it wasn’t a far or long distance compared to those who do 1/2 and full marathons or the likes but it was tough for me.  I know, I know you aren’t suppose to compare yourself to others (actually read something about that earlier today) but it’s hard not to sometimes.

I pushed and I finished and I didn’t stop when I wanted to.  My back, arms, legs, and butt were telling me to stop but I didn’t.  I told myself I could do it and I did.

So I’m proud of myself for that!

It still sucked :-)

(I think that might be a record for the number of times I could write the word “sucked”)

Let’s Tri Again for a Cure

SUPER EXCITED!!  To tell y’all about this little project I’ve had in the works that is becoming a reality!  Beginning with my triathlon on May 5, I will be racing (ah hell, let me be accurate and say “participating”) in honor of The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.  My participation in various events will allow me to fundraise for this organization.  There are so many great aspects to this idea that I’m grinning ear to ear just thinking about them!

  • Donations made to this organization will help researchers in the prevention, treatment, and hopefully finding a cure for breast cancer.  To date, approximately 90 cents of every dollar goes directly to research.
  • I get to participate in a variety of races and have the motivation of doing it for a larger purpose than just participation or myself.
  • My butt gets moving and I have a HUGE reason to work out and get healthy!
  • YOU, can help these efforts by placing a donation and follow my journey via my blog (which I can guarantee will be rather hilarious I’m sure).

I’ve created a cute little logo I’m going to place on EVERYTHING (because I’m a dork like that).

I’ve also been granted permission to use The Breast Cancer Research Foundation‘s logo for the purpose of fundraising.

Those of you who know me, know I have a soft spot for anything in regards to breast cancer.  This horrible disease took my grandmother when I was in high school and has been my personal philanthropy ever since.  NOW, I get to finally give back in a way I haven’t before and CAN NOT wait!

So, how will this work you ask?!  Good question.  In about a week, I’ll have a live donation page via  The BCRF where you can donate.  With this page, you’ll make a donation directly to the organization so your donation should be tax-deductible.  You can either make a flat donation or if you’d like to pledge a certain amount per mile completed during the events.  By the middle of December, I’ll give a final tally for the total miles I completed during all my events which will determine how much you donate.  For example…….you decide to pledge 50 cents for every mile I finish and my final tally is 50 miles, your donation would be $25.00.  Make sense?

On my race page (here on this blog), I’ll do my best to keep races up to date as I know which ones I plan to participate in as well as the results post race.  On my cause page (again here on the blog), I’ll keep track of miles completed and how the fundraising is going.  This makes me want to go out and train then sign up for every race I know!

Along the way, I may do some merchandise benefiting the cause as well……that’s just a thought right now, we’ll see where that goes.

So keep your eyes open for a link or email in the next week or so with information regarding my donation page.  PLEASE, feel free to pass this information (and my blog as well!) to anyone who’d be willing to support finding a cure for breast cancer!

Thank you in advance from the bottom of my heart!  This will make the next 7 months exciting for me and hopefully my posts will keep you more than entertained as I go through this journey!!

xoxo,

Whoa Nellie!!

First let’s start with some great news – I had an awesome work out tonight!  Remember yesterday when I mentioned I had to do something I was preparing myself mentally for?!  So, here it is – I was supposed to jog for 20 minutes straight.  I know, I know – you’re thinking “really, that’s it?”.  The long and short of it, I did it and I didn’t stop once!  Yep, I’m bad ass (in my own little world).  Again, I was a turtle but nonetheless I did it.

I ran through an awesome neighborhood on the water which definitely helped.  The homes are large and very reminiscent of my time in Savannah.  It’s the best of both worlds, I feel like I’m in the true south yet I’m where I love to be in Texas.  If only I had $1,500,000 to pay for one of the homes.

Here’s a pic I took on a previous walk………how gorgeous is this home!

Not too long ago, friends would laugh at me since I couldn’t even touch my toes when stretching my hamstrings.  Considering I’m only 5′ tall, I’m close to the ground!  Since all this training, I’ve been actually stretching some.  OK, not as much as I should but I’m doing something!  Here’s proof and I promise I’m not cheating (straddle stretch)…..

After stretching and a little ab work, I made a protein smoothie.  I cheat a little by using Naked brand Green Machine to get a bunch of nutritional items, some protein powder, and frozen berries.  A truly yummy delight!

On a complete side note, on my way home after my work out I passed this older couple walking.  They had a stroller with their DOG in it!!  What in the world is the point of walking a dog if the dog isn’t gonna walk??!!??

Oh, before I leave………a question to you all………what is your favorite pre-workout snack or supplement to energize yourself?  I enjoy working out in the evening but sometimes my energy levels are lacking.  I’d love to hear what get’s your motor running (get your mind out of the gutter!).

Thanks!
